A journey through flavours, people, and cultures

Orient Experience is one of the four restaurants in Venice, founded by Hamed Ahmadi and managed by political refugees and asylum seekers. Hamed is an Afghan film director that arrived in Italy in 2006 to present one of his movies at the Venice Film Festival, where he decided to stay as a political refugee. Today, he is an entrepreneur leading three restaurants and one takeaway offering a menu that reminds you of the migrants’ journeys from Africa and the Middle East to Venice.
Through many hardships, from the high waters in 2019 to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Hamed has not given up, and has continued the take-away and delivery services from his restaurants to the residents of Venice. Meanwhile, his story has flown overseas thanks to Michelle Obama who has chosen to include the Orient Experience spices in the Netflix series “Waffles + Mochi”. This is a program addressed to children to teach them about food and a healthy diet.
Hamed Ahmadi, will be with us and tell us about this extraordinary story in dialogue with Patrizia Canova from Fondazione Opes-Lcef.
